Poonch, March 25: As part of the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Poonch, operating under the Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Jammu, Tuesday concluded a five-day training programme on natural farming for Krishi Sakhis at its campus.
The training was conducted in line with the project guidelines under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. B. N. Tripathi, and Director Extension, Dr. Amrish Vaid, SKUAST-Jammu. During the valedictory session, Dr. Ajay Gupta, Chief Scientist and Head, KVK Poonch, congratulated the Krishi Sakhis of Poonch for their active participation. He highlighted that Natural Farming, a flagship initiative of the Government of India launched in 2024-25, aims to revitalise soil health, promote ecological balance, and ensure agricultural sustainability. Dr. Gupta emphasised that Natural Farming is a community-driven approach to counter the adverse effects of chemical fertilisers. He urged the Krishi Sakhis to become ambassadors of this movement, spreading awareness in their villages, panchayats and blocks. The five-day training programme covered various aspects of Natural Farming, including– principles and components of natural farming, disease and pest management and orchard management.
Practical sessions were also held, where participants received hands-on training in the preparation of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Gunjeevamrit and Derekastra—natural bio-enhancers used in sustainable farming. A total of 12 Krishi Sakhis from six clusters underwent training from March 20 to 25. Participants expressed gratitude to the KVK Poonch officials for organising such an impactful training, recognising its significance in environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture. The programme concluded with the distribution of Training Modules and Certificates to the participants, reinforcing their commitment to promoting Natural Farming practices in their respective communities.
