Srinagar, 12 Aug: Massive searches continued for the third consecutive day on Monday and security forces are now using high end drones, choppers to track the foreign terrorists who entered the region a few days ago, officials said.
A police officer said that an ongoing anti-terrorist operation is underway in the Kokernag area of south Kashmir, where 2 Army personnel and one civilian have been killed, and four others were injured.
“More forces have been rushed to the area whereas the cordon and search operation is underway to track down hiding terrorists,” he said, adding that both Army, Police have deployed high end drones and choppers in the area.
“Multiple drones, 3 choppers and other technical equipment is being used to track the terrorists hiding in the area. Para commandos have been deployed also to conduct this challenging operation,” he said.
The police official further said that the entire forest belt is under a tight security cordon to neutralize the terrorists. The area is mountainous and the forest is dense, making the operation both difficult and dangerous, he said.
Meanwhile, the Army said that additional troops and equipment have been inducted to flush out the terrorists and the use of drones and other technical resources is being ensured.
“Indian Army has been conducting a series of joint and coordinated operations with J&K Police to eliminate foreign terrorists who have infiltrated and are moving in the upper reaches of Kishtwar, Anantnag and areas and thereafter to Kashmir Valley,” he said.
Meanwhile police have intensified crackdown against the OGW terror network in the district regarding the recent attacks. Some people were questioned and hope we get any leads.
“We are committed to dismantle the terror network in the district. More arrests are likely to be carried out soon,” he said.
On Sunday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K Bidhuri said that two soldiers and a civilian have been killed, and another civilian is being treated for injuries.
“There are probably three to four terrorists present in Kokernag forests. We have launched an investigation on ‘how civilians were near the terrorists and their possible involvement,” he said.
IGP Kashmir said the terrorist group might have crossed from Doda, as the Anantnag and Kishtwar borders are connected. The terrain and weather is a challenge,” he said.
