All Four Kashmiri students who were detained by the Uttar Pradesh were released on Thursday after J&K Students Association taken up Matter with Uttar Pradesh Chief Ministers Office. In a Statement, National Convenor of Association Nasir Khuehami said that all Four students from Kashmir studying in the Law department at AMITY University, were detained by Noida Police on Wednesday. On their way to the rented PG where they have been staying for 4 years, these students were roughed up by locals. Subsequently, the students filed a complaint which resulted in their detention.
He said that, Rather than questioning and apprehending the accused responsible for the harassment, the police have taken into custody the four boys who were subjected to physical aggression. The families of the students have approached the association appealing for their immediate release, he said.
Khuehami said they reached out to Uttar Pradesh Chief Ministers’ Principal Secretary Ashwani Awasthi regarding their detention, urged him to intervene in order to secure the release of the detained students and ensure their safety. All four Students have been released now after intervention from Chief Ministers Office.
Meanwhile, J&K Students Association highly appreciates prompt action and effective intervention of Principal Secretary to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, when contacted on this matter. The families of the released students express their deepest gratitude for their proactive intervention & compassion. This incident has reinforced our faith in the principles of justice, they said.
