aatSrinagar, Mar 11: The markets in the Kashmir Valley on Monday wore a festive look as the holy month for Muslims, Ramadan began today. The markets across the Kashmir were jam-packed as people were seen buying Ramadan-related stuff.
The Ramadan moon has been sighted in Jammu and Kashmir this evening, announced Grand Mufti, Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasirul Islam Farooqi.
Ramzan crescent of 1445 A.H was sighted in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and the holy month commences this evening with the first day of the month of fasting to be marked tomorrow,” Islam, as per GNS said.
People in Srinagar and other markets across the valley were busy shopping for this holiest month. The shopkeepers at these markets were happy to see the spike in their sales. “Ramadan is a time of spiritual renewal and community bonding,” says ShowkatNazir, a local resident of Srinagar, adding that the bustling markets and the sight of families shopping together evoke a sense of joy.
Shopkeepers in Srinagar have decorated their shops with different kinds of dates displayed by them. “Dates hold special significance during Ramadan,” added a shopkeeper who has his shop in the center of the city, LalChowk, Srinagar. “Dates are not just a food item; they symbolize the spiritual nourishment that Ramadan brings,” says Mansoor, another shopkeeper.
“We are happy to see good business as almost everyone is buying stuff which includes dates, flour, and other items. We hope this flow continues till late evening,” said Mohammad Ibrahim, a shopkeeper at LalChowk.
On the occasion, shoppers stated that at every festival, there are special packages available, and there are bumper offers available at other festivals. But there are no such sales or deals available for this holy month. There should be a special deal available on this day.
