Kargil, July 23: A dead body was recovered while four others from Doda district are yet to be traced after a vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a river near the Kaksar area of Kargil district of Ladakh Union Territory.
A police official said the accident occurred between Kaksar and Kargil at around 9:00 on on Friday. He said a vehicle bearing registration number JK16B/2015 was on its way from Drass when the driver lost control of it. “The vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into the Singo river near Kaksar area,” he said.
Due the search operation, a dead body was recovered from the river. He has been identified as Ghulam Mustafa Kasana, a resident of Sumbal Bala Gund in Ganderbal district, while four others are still missing, the official said, adding that the rescue operation is still in progress to trace the persons.
He said police have already registered a missing report at the concerned police post and have appealed to the general public having any information or clue about the whereabouts of the missing individuals to contact the Police Post at 9469203232 or IC PP Bazaar at 9103022417.
A voluntary rescue team ‘Basij-e-Imam’ and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also joined the search operation. The authorities, including DSP HQ Kargil, SHO Drass, In-charge Police Post Bazar Kargil, SDRF, and volunteers from Basij-e-Imam, IKMT, and ISK, are tirelessly searching the river bank for any sign of the missing individuals, the official said.
