Udhampur, Aug 11: To commemorate the 75 years of India’s Independence, J&K Legal Services Authority and Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of J&K and Ladakh has organized a series of awareness programmes in various Child Care Institutions, Observation Homes, One Stop Center cum Shelter Homes being run by NGOs and Social Welfare Department, various schools and Jails in different districts of UT of J&K.
In this connection, Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority accompanied by Mrs. Rajni Rabstan, PDJ Udhampur Haq Nawaz Zargar (Chairperson DLSA) Udhampur and Amit Kumar Gupta, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority as well as Juvenile Justice Committee High Court of J&K and Ladakh visited District Jail, Jagriti Old Age Home, One Stop Center near CEO office, Parisha and Palash (Child Care Institution for Girls and Boys respectively) at Udhampur.
On his arrival, Justice Tashi was received by Superintendent District Jail Udhampur and accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour. Justice Tashi inspected the Legal Aid Clinic, e-mulakat center, VC facility room, STD facility, IGNOU Center, Kitchen/dining area, 10 bedded dispensary and Dental Centre besides, inspecting the female and male Barracks of the Jail inmates and interacted with them to enquire about their well-being as well as facilities being provided to them. All the inmates of the Jail during interaction admitted that they are being served with proper diet by the Jail authorities and are being represented in their respective cases by the lawyers either engaged by them or provided by the Legal Services Authority. During interaction, Justice Tashi noted that no Medical Officer was posted in the Jail despite a sanctioned post though specialist doctors do visit the Jail on rotational basis thrice a week and a dental surgeon once a week.
To commemorate and celebrate the 75 years of independence, the Jail inmates performed a brief cultural programme and recited patriotic poems to showcase their talent that was highly appreciated by the attendees.
Subsequently, Justice Tashi visited “Jagriti” Old Age Home run by an NGO, where he was received by the President and staff of the Home. During interaction with the Home inmates varied experiences in different walks of life were shared by them. President of the Home raised issues of security, non-availability of Doctor, Physiotherapist and non-receipt of Grant-in-aid from Social Welfare Department from last two years. The Deputy CMO and Addl. SP Udhampur, present there, assured immediate resolution of the issue of doctor and physiotherapist as well as security around the said home. Regarding the issue of Grant-in-aid, Justice Tashi assured the President of the Home to take taken up the same with the concerned department for its immediate action. The Directorate of Ayush had also organized a camp in the said Home for the benefit of inmates.
Later, Justice Tashi visited One Stop Centre to take stock of facilities available there, and interacted with the staff to get first hand information about the working of the Center. He enquired the details about one female girl currently staying in the said Centre.
Further, Justice Tashi visited Parisha (Home for Girls) having a capacity to house 25 inmates, where presently 15 girls were staying with whom he had discussion on different topics to have an idea about the level of understanding the children had. Adjoining to the said Home, “Palash” was located having a capacity of 50 persons, at present having 30 inmates. On seeing the facilities available at “Palash” like AC dormitories, Recreation Hall with big LED, Computer Lab, well maintained kitchen and dining hall, facility for indoor games, open Gym etc. Justice Tashi appreciated the efforts of the Social Welfare Department in maintaining required standard of living and expected that similar kind of facilities shall be provided in all the CCIs.
