JPDCL’s 24×7 power supply claims fall flat in smart metered areas of Jammu

Jammu, August 9: Despite tall claims by the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) of providing 24×7 power supply in smart-metered areas, residents in various parts of Jammu, particularly in the Janipur sub-division are facing prolonged and frequent power cuts.
This has led to frustration among the PDD consumers, who are experiencing some of the worst power outages in recent memory.
Consumers from different areas of Jammu informed Rising Kashmir that the reality on the ground contradicts JPDCL’s assurances. They claimed that the 24×7 power supply is only documented on paper, with no corresponding improvement in actual service. The ongoing power cuts have been particularly unbearable during the peak summer months, causing severe inconvenience to residents.
A consumer from the Janipur subdivision, whose father is on oxygen support, expressed grave concern over the unscheduled power cuts. “The erratic power supply is putting my father’s life at stake. If something happens to him, who will be responsible?” he asked. “Despite paying huge electricity bills, I cannot afford to buy a generator,” he added, highlighting the financial burden on consumers.
Other residents echoed similar sentiments, stating that the situation has deteriorated over the past month, with no respite in sight despite continuous calls to the concerned department. They reported receiving only excuses from officials, who blamed the issues on an overloaded system.
“Every year, JPDCL promises to upgrade the infrastructure, but the situation remains the same,” said another frustrated consumer. “In summer, they claim there is an overload, and in winter, they give the same excuse.”
In response, JPDCL officials said that some grid stations are experiencing overload, but they insisted that sufficient power is being supplied. They also acknowledged that there are occasional issues at the local level, which they claim are being promptly addressed.
Chief Engineer of JPDCL Manhar Gupta, speaking to Rising Kashmir, stated that there is overloading in some grid stations, which occasionally causes problems for the residents. He said they are making every effort to address the issue as soon as possible.
The officer also stated that sometimes people face issues due to problems at the local level, and they should contact the local officials for resolution. In response to a query, the officer assured that if there is any specific grievance from any area, he will personally look into the matter and ensure that JPDCL delivers on its promises.
