Srinagar, Aug 05: After the abrogation of Article-370 in Jammu & Kashmir, various Central Acts were made applicable to the newly formed UT of J&K and Ladakh.
Likewise, the J&K EPF & MP Act, 1961 Act was abolished and replaced by EPF & MP Act, 1952.
Employees Provident Fund Organization is one of the largest Social Security Organizations of the world. This is the first time that the Employees Provident Fund Organisation, Regional Office Kashmir has started functioning as a full-fledged Office of EPFO, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India headed by Shri Vinay Kumar, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner-II/OIC. The Regional Office Kashmir is beginning to commence its operations and will have jurisdiction over ten (10) districts of Kashmir Division.
The EPFO provides social security coverage as well as old age retirement benefits to the employees working in different establishments and EPFO monitors three Schemes EPF, EPS & EDLI.
Under the EPF scheme, a member contributes monthly share of 12% of his Basic Wages, DA and Retaining Allowance if any towards the fund. A matching share of same amount is also paid by Employer.
The total amount is credited to the member’s individual UAN (Universal Account Number) and is provided with an Annual Compound Interest at a fixed rate (at present 8.25%). After the retirement or death of a subscriber/member, the minimum pension amount under EPS is Rs 1,000 per month. Moreover, the benefit of Insurance under EDLI is Rs 2.5 Lakhs up to maximum of 7 Lakhs will be given to the nominee of the deceased upon his death in harness if the deceased has rendered more than one year of continuous service as a member of EPFO.
Employees Provident Fund Organisation is conducting Nidhi Aapke Nikat 2.0 on 27th of every month in different district of Kashmir valley and the main focus of the program is to provide various on-the-spot services to members Via-a-Viz e-nomination filing, KYC seeding (Aadhaar seeding), updation of Bank Account, PAN, Mobile number, and Claim related services like Online claim submission and Digital Life Certificate (DLC) submission for Pensioners.
The Principal Employer and their sub-contractors are advised to comply with the provisions of EPF & MP Act 1952 and ensure that their workers/employees are covered under the ambit of EPF & MP Act 1952.
