Jammu, Feb 5: The duo of ace deaf cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir namely Umar Ashraf and Sharik Majeed after getting the National Selectors’ nod to represent India, are all set to showcase their cricketing skills against the formidable teams of Australia and South Africa in the T20I Tri-Series Deaf Cricket at New Delhi from March 2 to March 8.
The T20I Tri-Series will be followed by One-Day International Series against Australia on March 10, 11 and 12 at New Delhi. While Umar Ashraf, a wicketkeeper batter, has cemented his place in the Indian Deaf Team and is its regular member from the last many seasons, Sharik will represent the country for the first time. During their rigorous practice in Jammu, both the cricketers have expressed happiness over their selection and assured of a good show at the international scene.
Meanwhile, the 16-member India squad included Virender Singh (Captain Himachal Pradesh), Sai Akash (Vice Captain Tamil Nadu), Umar Ashraf (WK J&K), Abhishek Singh (West Bengal), Akash Singh (Haryana), Yashwanth Naidu (Andhra Pradesh), Sanju Sharma (Rajasthan), Santosh Kr Mohapatra (Odisha), Kuldeep Singh (Haryana), Vivek Kumar (Haryana), Sudarsun E (Tamil Nadu), Krishna Gowda (WK Maharashtra), M Shramith (Karnataka), Sibun Nanda (Odisha), Ankit Jagir (Rajasthan) and Sharik Majeed (J&K). The Indian Deaf team will be attending the Coaching Camp at New Delhi from February 24 to March 1, 2025.
