Srinagar, Aug 18: Highlighting the revitalized film industry in the region and drawing parallels to the cinematic era of the 1980s, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated today that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a remarkable surge in both film and serial productions, with approximately 300 projects already being filmed since the implementation of the new Film Policy.
The Lieutenant Governor spoke after inaugurating the shooting for the TV Serial “Pashmina” at Zero Bridge.
Sinha said this resurgence is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and create job opportunities, especially for the youth.
“The current interest in film production is reminiscent of the times when Jammu and Kashmir’s stunning landscapes were frequently chosen as backdrops by Hollywood and Bollywood in the 1980s,” he said.
LG Sinha praised the efforts of the J&K administration in creating a new film policy after consulting various stakeholders. This policy has played a pivotal role in re-establishing the region as a cinematic hub.
“The revival of the film industry is seen as significant in bolstering the local economy and providing livelihood opportunities to the young population. The inauguration of the “Pashmina” serial is seen as a concrete outcome of the ambitious film policy,” Sinha said .
He said the Jammu and Kashmir was historically known for its cinematic charm during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s and the resurgence of the film industry is not only expected to revive its cinematic legacy but also to boost the economy through film tourism.
“The region seems to be on track to becoming a preferred location for both film enthusiasts and industry professionals once again,” he further added.
Meanwhile, the Lt Governor extended his best wishes to Alchemy Films, Sony SAB TV, cast and the entire team for the new show.
Interacting with the media persons, the Lt Governor said the golden era of film shooting is returning to the valley.
Local talent from the UT is also the part of the TV show ‘Pashmina’ which will be filmed extensively in different locations of Jammu Kashmir over next five months.
Siddharth Malhotra and Sapna Malhotra, creators and producers of Alchemy Films Private Limited, cast and crew members of the show were present on the occasion.
