Srinagar, April 03 : The Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Graduates Association (JKMEGA) convened a Guidance Council Meeting to review the status of long-pending issues affecting the engineering community.
The members expressed serious concern over the non-filling of vacant posts at all levels, particularly within the mechanical engineering cadre, which has been hit hardest by administrative stagnation.
The President of JKMEGA emphasized that for several months, the Mechanical and Hospital Engineering Department (M&HED) Kashmir has been functioning without a Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer (SE).
This leadership vacuum has severely affected project execution and routine operations.
The crisis is further aggravated by a staggering number of vacant posts across multiple key departments, including M&HED, Jal Shakti, and Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD) ; 05 Superintending Engineers (SE), 18 Executive Engineers (XENs), 48 Assistant Executive Engineers (AEEs), 50 Assistant Engineers (AEs).
In addition, the long-pending placement of Junior Engineers (JEs) to Assistant Engineers (AEs) remains stalled, despite the availability of vacancies and their eligibility for promotion.
This prolonged stagnation has deeply demoralized JEs, who have been serving on the same posts for years with no career progression.
JKMEGA also strongly urges the administration to refer the vacant posts of JEs to the Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) to facilitate employment for deserving candidates and strengthen the ground force of the Mechanical Wing.
The association makes a strong and urgent appeal to the Hon’ble Chief Minister (HCM), Deputy Chief Minister (DHCM), Worthy Chief Secretary, and Secretary R&B to expedite the placement of engineers at all levels to restore efficiency in project execution and enhance public service delivery.
JKMEGA remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for the engineering community and ensuring the upliftment of the profession for the greater good of governance and public welfare.
