Jammu, Dec 11: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) Wednesday organized Bharat Bhasha Utsav 2024 at K.L. Saigal Hall, Jammu.
A statement issued here said that the event celebrated the poetic and linguistic diversity of India while paying tribute to Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, one of the greatest literary luminaries of modern India.
Prominent writers from various languages participated in the program, which was presided over by Harvinder Kour, Secretary of JKAACL. Dr. Nirmal Vinod, a noted Dogri and Hindi writer, delivered the keynote address.
Dr. Javaid Rahi, Chief Editor and Divisional Head, JKAACL Jammu, welcomed the guests and emphasized the objective of the programme. He stated, “This event aims to highlight the immense contributions of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati and celebrate the poetic and linguistic richness of our country.”
Harvinder Kour, in her address, described Mahakavi Subramania Bharati as a multifaceted personality who, despite primarily contributing to Tamil literature, had mastery over 32 languages, including three foreign languages. She assured that JKAACL would continue organizing such events to honor and celebrate iconic literary figures.
Dr. Nirmal Vinod, in his keynote address, elaborated on Bharati’s literary and journalistic contributions. He said: “The titles ‘Bharati’ and ‘Mahakavi’ reflect the profound impact of his genius. While his works in English were brilliant, he took immense pride in Tamil and viewed all Indian languages as equal to English.”
The event featured a recital of songs composed by Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, performed by Dr. Harsh Kaila, which captivated the audience. A multilingual Mushaira was also held, where poets from Hindi, Dogri, and other languages recited their works, paying homage to the legendary poet.
Sanjeev Gupta, SOCA, conceptualized the program, while Dr. Chanchal Sharma delivered the vote of thanks. The proceedings were conducted by Banidya Tickoo.
