J&K UT Thang-Ta Championship kicks off at Polo Ground

Srinagar, Nov 24: The much-anticipated J&K Union Territory Thang-Ta Championship commenced on Sunday at the Multipurpose Indoor Hall, Polo Ground, Srinagar.
Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Thang-Ta Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, the championship has brought together talented players from across the region, showcasing the immense potential and passion for the traditional martial art of Thang-Ta.
The championship aims to identify and nurture promising talent in the sub-junior, junior and senior categories. Selected players will earn the honor of representing Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory at the 30th National Thang-Ta Championship, scheduled to be held in Uttarakhand from January 4 to January 6, 2024.
The event has garnered enthusiastic participation from athletes across various districts, reflecting the growing popularity of Thang-Ta in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at the inauguration, officials from the J&K Sports Council expressed their commitment to supporting traditional sports and providing platforms for young athletes to excel at the national level. The championship promises three days of intense competition, skillful displays, and a celebration of cultural heritage.
The organizing committee extended its gratitude to the J&K Sports Council for unwavering support in promoting sports in the Union Territory. The ongoing championship not only aims to foster sporting excellence but also to inspire the youth to embrace traditional forms of physical and mental discipline.
The final rounds of the tournament are expected to draw significant public interest, with prominent personalities from the sports fraternity expected to attend.
