Srinagar, May 08: The Jammu and Kashmir branch of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Thursday marked the World Red Cross Day with a heartfelt ceremony that reflected the global spirit of compassion and humanitarian service. Staff members and dedicated volunteers gathered to honour the movement’s core principles and renew their commitment to serving those in need.
G.A. Qureshi, Honorary Treasurer of IRCS J&K, hoisted the Red Cross flag and addressed the attendees. Speaking on this year’s theme, “On the Side of Humanity,” Qureshi underscored the fundamental values of the Red Cross Movement — neutrality, compassion, and unwavering support for those in distress. “In times of greatest difficulty, we must be there for people, placing humanity above all divisions — be it race, gender, nationality, religion, or political beliefs,” he said. “Let us pledge today to alleviate human suffering and wipe away every tear.”
He urged Red Cross volunteers to work closely with their respective Deputy Commissioners to ensure swift and effective assistance during emergencies and crises. “Let us continue to be a beacon of hope for those in despair, and a source of support for those who feel forgotten or deprived,” he said.
The event served as a moment of reflection and solidarity, reinforcing the Red Cross’s enduring mission to protect and uplift vulnerable communities — a call to action for all those committed to humanitarian service.
