Jammu, July 14: In a moment of immense pride for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, two young and talented gymnasts, Vaibhavi Sharma and Muskan Rana, have been officially flagged off to represent India at the prestigious FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup, scheduled to take place in Romania and Italy from July 20.A statement issued here said that the ceremonial send-off was held in Jammu in the presence of Anissa Nabi, Chief Sports Officer of the J&K Sports Council, who flagged off the athletes with warm wishes for their success on the international stage. The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Er Kiran Wattal, President of the Gymnastics Association of J&K, Sat Pal, Divisional Sports Officer, and senior office-bearers of the association such as Anil Khajuria (Sr. Vice President), Rakesh Malhotra (Treasurer), S. Tajinder Singh (Associated Secretary), Sunil Sharma (Chairman, Discipline Committee), Rajan Sharma (Chairman, Activity Committee) and others from Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua districts. Speaking at the occasion, Er Kiran Wattal expressed his confidence in the gymnasts’ capabilities. He confirmed that Vaibhavi Sharma will represent India at the World Challenge Cup in Romania, while Muskan Rana will compete in the World Cup in Milan, Italy. Both athletes have previously represented India at international events, earning accolades and bringing glory to Jammu and Kashmir. Wattal commended the unwavering support of Nusrat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council Sarmad Hafiz, Commissioner Secretary Sports, Satish Sharma, Minister for Sports and Lieutenants Governor Manoj Sinha, for their continued encouragement and focus on the development of gymnastics and sports infrastructure in the region. “This is a moment of great pride not just for the Gymnastics Association, but for every citizen of J&K. These athletes are the embodiment of hard work, discipline, and excellence,” said Wattal. “With the right support and training, our gymnasts have consistently proven they can compete and succeed at the global level.”The Gymnastics Association of J&K, in coordination with the J&K Sports Council, has been actively working to enhance opportunities and facilities for athletes. The participation of Vaibhavi and Muskan is seen as a testament to those efforts, with the entire sporting community hopeful of a strong performance from the duo. Both gymnasts expressed their gratitude to the coaches, association members, and the administration for the opportunity and encouragement. They vowed to give their best and bring honour to the Union Territory and the nation.
