Pulwama, Dec 14: Mir Imtiyaz Rajpori, President of the Jammu and Kashmir electrical employees union, has reiterated the long-pending demand for the regularisation of casual employees working in the Power Development Department (PDD).
Addressing the media in Pulwama on Saturday, Rajpori highlighted the plight of casual workers, many of whom have been serving on meager wages for years.
“The services of casual employees should be regularised to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and to ease their long-standing hardships,” Rajpori said.
He emphasised that the stability which will be brought by their regular employment would benefit both the workers and the department.
Rajpori also demanded the constitution of a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) to address the stagnation in promotions, which has left many employees stuck in the same grade for 15 to 20 years.
“Our promotions have been pending for decades, and it’s affecting employee morale,” he said.
The union president also called for the timely release of salaries through treasuries, as was previously practiced, and streamlining of GP fund management to bring it in line with other government departments.
“Delayed payments and a lack of proper fund management are creating financial stress for employees,” he added.
Safety concerns were another major focus of his address.
Rajpori urged the government to provide standard safety gear for field employees, whose work often involves high-risk conditions.
Appealing to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Rajpori stressed the importance of addressing these issues on a priority basis.
“PDD employees are the backbone of essential services, and any disruption in electricity supply impacts the functioning of all other sectors,” he said, calling for immediate redressal of their grievances.
