Jammu: Manu Jain National Head IYC Social Media on Sunday appointed colleagues as State Convener, State Coordinators, State Co-Coordinators and State Executive Members of Jammu & Kashmir Youth Congress Social Media.
According to the order, Tanveer Singh has been appointed State Convener Ram Singh, while Waseem Khan, Umar Ayub, Abhinandan Nayar, Vassem Tak and Irshad Chaudhary have been appointed as State Coordinators. State Co-Coordinators include Kapil Kumar, Waqar Aziz, Darshan Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, Danish Malik, JaiSidh Bhalla, Aiesha Jan, Suhail Nisar and Abdul Hamid.
Tanveer Singh, while speaking on his appointment, said that public opinion is the currency of democracy. Social media platforms are increasingly becoming the primary ground for public discourse and mobilization of public opinion, a tool where people are able to talk about the issues of day-to-day life and also of national importance.
“Social media today is no longer just an innocent space to connect with friends and family. Instead, it has metamorphosed into becoming an influential space for political activity and creating a new political dialogue,” he said.
Singh further said that communication barriers that did not allow people to interact with the leaders have reduced significantly because of social media. “Politicians are reaching out to their supporters on social media. They are making sure to keep the public in the loop through their engagements and posts on social media. It has increased the ability of ordinary citizens to take part in the political process. Besides this, social media has been actively used to influence diplomatic relations between India and its friendly countries,” he added.
State Co-Coordinator Jai Sidh Bhalla extended his gratitude to Manu Jain National Head IYC Social Media on his appointment and expressed his commitment to effectively counter “false propaganda” by BJP against the Congress party. “In today’s digital era, social media is a highly useful tool to communicate information. In the 2014 General elections, social media played a key role in influencing voter’s behaviour.”
“From 2014 onward, many startups related to social media came into the picture, due to which various job opportunities were opened for the youth. As people across the globe have increasingly turned to Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and other platforms to get their news and express their opinions, the sphere of social media has become a new public space for discussing – and often arguing bitterly – political and social issues,” Bhalla added
