Awantipora, Aug 31. Mantaqi Centre for Science & Society, IUST organized an educational field trip for the students to Dal Lake. The event aimed to provide students with an opportunity to gain insights into the challenges of sustainable development in Kashmir, with a special focus on understanding water pollution issues in the iconic Dal Lake of Srinagar.
During the field trip, students were guided by Mr. Showkat Rashid Wani, former Power Development Commissioner, Kashmir, and curator of the Nostalgic Kashmir exhibition. Mr. Wani guided the students through a historical journey, tracing the condition of Dal Lake and other major water bodies in Kashmir, dating back to the 1850s.
Mr. Sheikh Arshad, Dr. Rayees Ahmed, and Prof. Javed Mir enlightened the students about the intricate issues impacting Dal Lake’s water quality and ecosystem. This educational initiative by Mantaqi Centre for Science & Society underscores the importance of learning beyond textbooks.
