Awantipora, May 08: The Department of Civil Engineering, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), organized a Disaster Awareness Programme at HAJAHAD Public School, Awantipora, as part of its outreach initiatives aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The session was led by Er. Mohammad Iqbal Mirza, Senior Assistant Professor and Outreach Coordinator, who conducted an engaging session on disaster preparedness, focusing particularly on the do’s and don’ts during earthquakes. He highlighted the vulnerability of Kashmir Valley to natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides, due to its distinct topography, climatic conditions, and geographic location. Er. Mirza emphasized the crucial need for awareness, preparedness, and resilience to mitigate the impacts of such events on communities.
The programme witnessed active participation from a large gathering of students, teaching, and non-teaching staff of both HAJAHAD Public School and LearnX Academy, underscoring the local community’s keen interest in learning about disaster risk reduction and safety measures.
The school administration warmly appreciated IUST, for spearheading this vital initiative and acknowledged the university’s sustained efforts toward community engagement and social responsibility.
