Islamia College conducts seminar on drug de-addiction

Srinagar, Sep 01: Islamia College, conducted Seminar on Drug De-addiction, on Friday in the campus in which students from various streams took part.
Professor Mehraj-Ud-Din Gagloo, Dean Students Welfare (Boys) & Coordinator of the seminar welcomed the principal, guests, faculty and students of the college. Principal of the host college Professor (Dr.) Khurshid Ahmad Khan gave the introductory speech wherein he threw light on the importance of such seminars & conferences besides other curricular discourse.
Speaking on the occasion Professor Khan stated that every student has to take ownership to fight against substance abuse. Really, it is a matter of great concern for all of us to keep our society drug free, he said. Some serious steps must be initiated to stop the spread of the drug menace before it is too late. Professor Mehraj-U-Din GaglooCo-coordinator of the event briefed the importance of such seminar. In his lucid address he emphasized the students to act as ambassadors of the society for better tomorrow.Dr. Syed A. Untoo highlighted the significance of mobilizing the masses on this burning issue.
Dr. Zaraq Jan, from SKIMS Soura, in his presentation gave a deep insight into the biological aspects shedding light on the impending causes, the withdrawal symptoms, the remedies& a strong community role to eradicate the menace. He shared mind boggling data available across the world. He focused that lack of awareness regarding the consequences of drug addiction and how it has an adverse effect on person’s psychological and physical health, relations, life, etc.
Dr. Zaraq, added that strict action is required from police officers and the excise and narcotics department to curb the problem of drug menace in the society. Besides, education curriculum should include chapters on drug addiction, its impact and also on de-addiction. Ruhail, a counselor in his presentation advised the participants to try and promote for better & happy socio-economic and political stability in the UT of J&K. Ruhail mentioned the diversity of clients& the tools available to mitigate their plight.
The student participation, was meticulously channeled in the seminar by the ex-student of the host college Basit (BBA passout). Speaking on the occasion, he expressed the causes of drug menace, dangers of the drug menace and steps to be taken to eradicate the drug menace. Participants were fascinated with the ideas and discussions with the resource persons. Formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Seema Bashir, Head, PG Department of Commerce.
