Srinagar, Jun 19: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority Front National President Jamal Siddiqui arrived in Srinagar on a two-day visit to participate in programmes commemorating the 11th anniversary of the Modi government.
During his stay, Siddiqui paid homage at Hazrat Bal Dargah, situated on the banks of Dal Lake, and offered prayers. He visited Dargah Dastagir Sahib, where he laid flowers of devotion and prayed for India to become a global leader and for its ongoing development. The BJP leader also visited a local Gurudwara.
A minority chaupal was organised as part of the visit, where a dialogue was held with Sajjadanashins, Sufi saints and intellectuals under the “Sufi Samvad” campaign. Hundreds of people from various communities participated in the event. Among those present were BJP Minority Front’s National Executive Member and Sufi Samvad Abhiyan’s National Incharge Dr Aslam, State President Ranjodh Singh Nalwa, State Incharge Sheikh Wazir, Vice President Asar Ji, and other party officials, the Front said in a statement issued here.
Addressing the media about the “Sufi Samvad” programme, Siddiqui said that, at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP is conducting the “Sufi Samvad” Maha Abhiyan across the country. He expressed happiness that the Sufi community has welcomed this initiative wholeheartedly.
“Through this Maha Abhiyan, the voice of those associated with dargahs and Sufi traditions is being brought to the government’s attention,” he said. “We all need to work together to strengthen India.”
Siddiqui said the BJP stands for unity and inclusiveness, asserting that no previous government has prioritised the welfare of Sufis. “It is the BJP’s resolve to bring Sufis onto one platform and to protect them. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always held a special affection for Sufi ideology. He believes Sufism is like a guiding light that can inspire a world scarred by violence. Islam is a religion of peace, and Sufism is its soul,” he added.
