International Women’s Day’ celebrated at Amar Singh College, Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 08: Amar Singh College in collaboration with Vomedh on Wednesday organized a programme to commemorate ‘International Women’s Day, 2023’ themed ‘Embrace Equity’.
At the outset, chief guest Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather, guests-of-honor Prof. Neerja Matoo and Asifah Padroo (Additional Advocate General) J&K High Court were felicitated by Convener Women Development Cell Prof. Sabreena Syed and President Vomedh, Rohit Bhat.
 Principal Amar Singh College, Prof. B.A Rather in his inaugural address highlighted the scope and importance of celebrating International Women’s Day. Furthermore, he emphasized the goal of G20 in prioritizing the shift from women development to Women-led-development.
Prof. Neerja Matoo presented an illuminating speech on the status and dignity of women in present society.
Earlier, the dignitaries and guests were welcomed by President Vomedh Rohit Bhat. In his address he acknowledged the efforts of Principal Amar Singh College and Convener Women Development Cell in organizing such an event.
On the occasion, the President of the organisation announced his interest in conducting a theater workshop for the students of Amar Singh College so as to provide them with better career prospects.
During the course of the program a felicitation ceremony was held in which women from different sectors (Arts, Journalism, Education and Social Welfare) were honored for their unflinching efforts and achievements.
Sakal Bhat (journalist) and Asifah Padroo (Additional Advocate General) J&K High Court also spoke on the occasion. Apart from them the faculty of the college Prof. Kouser Parveen, Prof. Kaunser Andrabi, Prof. Basharat Shamim and some of the students shared their views on various dimensions of women empowerment.
Vomedh group and the students of Amar Singh college presented a skit and  some folk songs highlighting the role of women in contemporary era and the challenges faced thereof.
