Hyderabad, Jan 22: A Two-Day International Conference “Sustainable Development Goals for a Better World: Role of Public Administration” was inaugurated today at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU). Prof. Bidyut Chakrabarty, Former Vice-Chancellor, of Visva-Bharati Central University, Kolkata was the chief guest and keynote speaker of the session. The conference is being organised by the Department of Public Administration.
Prof. Bidyut Chakrabarty, a renowned scholar of public administration, emphasized the need to reinvent the Indic tradition of sustainable development and environmental protection. He said that humanity should be the focal point of all sustainable development efforts. Sustainability and humanity have fundamental connections and this goes beyond imitating the West. Sustainable development is meaningless without mass welfare, brotherhood, and fraternity, he added.
Mr.Ahmad Yasser, Deputy Commissioner GST, Government of Uttar Pradesh was the guest of honour. Emphasising the practical aspects of administration, he said that theorising a concept and implementing the same concept are two different things. There is a need to have a liaison between the two so that fruitful outcomes could be achieved. For this, academia and administrative agencies are needed to work in cooperation.
In her presidential remarks, Prof. Shagufta Shaheen, OSD1 told that the targets of sustainable development goals could be achieved successfully when their practical aspects are kept in mind. One such important practical aspect is the administrative aspect; and success of many policies depend upon administrative procedures.
Prof. Shahida, Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences stressed on the need for cooperation and coordination among various stakeholders.
Prof. Syed Najiullah, Conference Convenor and Head of the Department briefed about the conference. He told that the concern of sustainable development is a real and global where academia has a bigger role to play.
Dr. Junaid Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Administration proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Ahmed Raza, Co-Convener and Assistant Professor, Department of Public Administration, MANUU convened the programme.
