Srinagar, July 11: The Department of Youth Services and Sports Ganderbal continues to foster a vibrant sporting culture across the district by organizing multiple competitive events.A statement issued here said that on Thursday, the district witnessed the successful conduct of the Inter-Zone District Level Carrom Championship for U19 boys and girls, alongside Inter-School Zonal Level competitions in Cricket and Volleyball.The Carrom Championship brought together talented players from all four zones of the district. The Boys’ event was held at BHSS Ganderbal, where players exhibited impressive skill and focus.In the singles final, Zone Ganderbal overpowered Zone Tullamulla to clinch the title, while Zone Hariganiwan triumphed over Zone Kangan in the doubles final, showcasing precision and teamwork.The winners and runners-up were felicitated on the spot by senior officials of the department for their commendable performances.Simultaneously, GHSS Ganderbal hosted the Girls’ Carrom event, which saw vibrant participation from all educational zones.The singles final witnessed Zone Tullamulla emerge victorious against Zone Kangan, while in the doubles category, Zone Tullamulla once again demonstrated dominance by defeating Zone Hariganiwan.District Youth Services and Sports Officer Ganderbal, Sheikh Shafqat Iqbal, visited GHSS Ganderbal to interact with the participating girl students. He lauded their active involvement in strategic indoor games like Carrom, which, according to him, sharpen both mind and focus. While addressing the students, he said, “Participation in sports is vital for holistic growth, but academic pursuits must continue to be an integral part of one’s life.”
