Srinagar, July 07: A family from Pulwama has alleged medical negligence in the death of a 24-year-old woman from Armullah Litter, who died after childbirth at District Hospital Pulwama. The family of the deceased said Tayamusa Jan was brought to the hospital on Sunday and doctors assured them she would deliver the baby after normal delivery. She was taken into the labor room, but just two hours later she delivered a baby and was shifted to a ward. Her husband Mohd Ayoub Dar said soon after the child birth she developed complications and fell unconscious and later died.“Without any examination or tests, they told me she had a blood deficiency and asked me to arrange blood immediately. She was then rushed back to the ICU,” he said.“I checked the pulse monitor and it showed no sign of life. Still, they referred us to Lal Ded Hospital in Srinagar,” he said.“I have photos of the monitor showing zero pulse. When we reached Lal Ded, I asked the doctors there to check her pulse. They confirmed she was already dead,” Dar said. The family said that it was a normal delivery, but when they saw her after the procedure, she was bleeding heavily. The family claims there was a delay in providing emergency care, as well as a lack of communication about her deteriorating condition. They also allege the hospital tried to shift responsibility by referring her to another facility, even though she had already passed away.Demanding justice, the family has appealed to the Health Department and the Health Minister to take action against the erring doctors so that such incidents are not repeated.CMO Pulwama, Dr. Tehmeena Jameel, said the details will be shared once the inquiry report is finalized. “We will conduct a thorough investigation and examine if there was any negligence involved,” she said.Following a huge public outcry after the death, the District Magistrate Pulwama has constituted a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the allegations. The six-member panel has been formed to thoroughly examine the circumstances that led to the woman’s death and determine whether any breach of duty or lack of medical care contributed to the incident.
