Jammu, Feb 05: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasised the need for the INDI alliance to come together and plan its future strategy to prevent internal conflicts that could undermine its broader objectives.
Speaking to reporters during an event in Jammu on Monday, Omar stressed the importance of unity within the opposition. “I have said this before, and I will say it again—someday, the INDI alliance needs to sit together and plan its strategy. If we keep breaking apart like this, it won’t be good for the country,” he stated.
When asked about the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) chances in the Delhi Assembly elections, Omar refrained from making any direct predictions but suggested that AAP could potentially secure a decisive win, similar to their past performances. “We will know by the day after tomorrow,” he said, indicating that the results would soon provide a clearer picture.
On the issue of intra-alliance competition in Delhi weakening the opposition, Omar reiterated the need for cohesion, saying, “Unity is important. The alliance was formed to counter the BJP. While we may not have completely succeeded, we have made the opposition stronger in Parliament.”
Omar also advocated for an open discussion after the elections. “After the elections, we should sit together and have a meeting for an open discussion on the way forward,” he added.
Regarding AAP’s performance in Delhi, Omar admitted that he had been too focused on Jammu and Kashmir to follow the developments in Delhi closely. However, he remained cautious about making forecasts, commenting, “People haven’t even voted yet, so it’s too early to say anything. Who knows, AAP may sweep the elections again, just like before.”
Turning to the Union Budget, Omar welcomed the tax relief measures, emphasizing that proper implementation would be crucial. “Income tax relief is a good step. Some other budget announcements may also benefit the middle class, but it all depends on execution. Intentions are one thing, but we need to see how well they are carried out,” he explained.
He further noted that if the middle class receives tax relief, it could stimulate economic growth. “When people spend more, the economy gets stronger, and that is what we hope to see,” Omar concluded.
