Baramulla, Aug 25: Baramulla police has apprehended a total of 54 notorious drug smugglers and have been and booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act and the Public Safety Act (PSA) to curb the drug menace in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
This operation, aimed at eradicating the prevalence of drugs from society, has been met with widespread appreciation from citizens.
A police official said that the arrested drug peddlers were known to be operating across several sub-divisions including Uri, Pattan, Baramulla, Kreeri, and Tangmarg.
“These individuals had multiple cases registered against them for their involvement in promoting drug abuse by supplying narcotics to local youth within the Baramulla district,” the police official said.
“Despite previous encounters with the law, these hardened criminals persisted in their illicit activities, necessitating the decisive action taken by the police.”
The Baramulla police’s sustained and unwavering efforts against drug peddlers have yielded tangible results, with a noticeable decline in drug abuse within the district.
The locals have commended the diligent work carried out by law enforcement officers and have expressed satisfaction with the outcomes achieved.
Baramulla police have urged the locals to collaborate with law enforcement by sharing any information regarding drug peddlers in their vicinity.
“Confidentiality is assured for informants, as this joint effort seeks to completely uproot the scourge of drugs from society and bolster the already robust police-public relationship,” police said.
