Baramulla, Feb 13: The senior superintendent of police Baramulla Amud Ashok Nagpure on Monday said that the war on drugs will continue until the drug menace is completely eradicated in the north Kashmir district.
Speaking at a press conference, SSP Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure stated that handlers in Pakistan are using smugglers to push drugs into Jammu and Kashmir to spread drug addiction among the youth.
SSP Baramulla said that their network is strong, but with the support and cooperation of the people, such modules can be busted.
“The police have identified hotspots and will be using technical and human intelligence for future operations and war on drugs will continue until the drug menace is completely eradicated,” he added.
He said that in just one and a half months, 20 cases have been registered, narcotics worth around 2 crores have been seized, and 29 peddlers have been arrested under NDPS.
“We will soon bust the network of big drug suppliers and modules and save the youth of Kashmir from this menace,” he said.
Upon being asked if the Baramulla police are planning to seize the properties of drug peddlers, SSP Baramulla said that under NDPS Act, there is a provision and the police will definitely seize and attach the properties of such modules.
On Feb 12, the Baramulla police arrested four drug suppliers along with 1.17 kg of brown sugar and a cash of Rs. 25.39 Lakhs from Uri area of Baramulla.
“The police have more leads and more such modules are expected to be busted soon,” he said.
When asked why drug peddlers are often seen free after remaining in lockups, SSP Baramulla stated that they get out on bail and the police are using the Preventive Detention Act to ensure they remain in custody.
He said that the police are determined to stop drugs from entering Jammu and Kashmir and will continue to use all available resources to do so.
