Jammu, Nov 18: The Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu, continues its effort to revive the Baithak tradition, providing a unique platform for students to nurture their artistic talents while preserving the essence of Indian classical arts. The November Baithak witnessed a vibrant gathering of students, faculty, and art enthusiasts, showcasing diverse performances and academic contributions that highlighted the depth of talent nurtured within the institute.
The event featured a soulful Teental performance by a Kathak student, who displayed remarkable poise and rhythm, accompanied by vocals, tabla, and padhant. A Sitar performance captured the audience with a mesmerizing rendition of Raag Miya-Malhar, showcasing the artist’s dedication to classical precision. A dynamic Tabla solo performance added energy and vitality to the evening, supported by harmonium accompaniment, while a violin duet enchanted the audience with its melodious harmony, creating a perfect blend of skill and expression.
Adding an intellectual dimension, a first-year student presented a detailed report on the previous Baithak held in October, reflecting on the progress and learnings of the participants. Another student contributed a scholarly paper, offering insights into the nuances of Indian classical music, enriching the event’s academic spirit.
The Baithak has gained momentum under the guidance of the Principal, Prof. Sohaib Malik, who praised the students’ progress and emphasized the importance of such platforms in fostering confidence and artistic growth. The Principal Secretary of Culture, Suresh Gupta, appreciated the revival of this tradition and applauded the efforts of Dr. Priya Dutta, Head of the Performing Arts Department, in creating opportunities for young artists to shine.
Dr. Priya Dutta, while delivering the vote of thanks, acknowledged the presence of esteemed guests and faculty. She also announced an exciting development for the next Baithak, where a “Best Performer Award” will be introduced to encourage and motivate participants further.
