Srinagar, Mar 04: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq on Tuesday delivered a sermon at Khanqah of Naqshband Sahab here in observance of Youm-e-Wisal of Hazrat Fatima Al-Zahra (RA).
During his address, Mirwaiz highlighted the honour Islam bestows upon women, citing Hazrat Fatima (RA) as a symbol of faith, strength and virtue. He mentioned the rights granted to women during her time, including the rights to choose a spouse, retain their identity, receive education, inherit property and earn respect.
However, he lamented the current state of society, saying there is a widespread denial of women’s inheritance rights and the disturbing perception of a girl child’s birth as a burden.
Mirwaiz condemned domestic violence and reminded the audience of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) words: “The best of you are those who are best to their wives.”
He called for a collective reflection on these issues and urged the people to honour the legacy of Hazrat Fatima (RA) by ensuring women receive their rights with dignity and respect. Mirwaiz concluded with a prayer for guidance to uphold the true teachings of Islam.
