Srinagar, Feb 29: Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu frontier, D K Boora, announced on Thursday that the Home Ministry has sanctioned a plan for the construction of a protection bund along the International Border (IB) aimed at ensuring the safety of farmers. Boora assured media personnel during a function in Chamliyal village near the IB in Samba that the project would be completed within the next five years.
Addressing concerns of farmers cultivating land near the border fence, Boora affirmed BSF’s commitment to their protection, stating, “We will provide you with all the assistance… If the farmers on the Indian side are not able to reap their produce, we will not allow the other side to cultivate as well.”
Boora highlighted that the home ministry has greenlit the proposal for the protection bund, aimed at safeguarding farmers working ahead of the border fence. “The protection bund will be completed within the next four to five years, depending on the availability of funds,” he added, assuring farmers of enhanced safety measures post-construction.
Emphasizing the central government’s efforts for border village development, Boora stated, “The impact of these schemes will be visible on the ground in the next five years.” He commended the patriotism among border populations in the Jammu region.
Boora addressed challenges faced by Punjab, particularly regarding drug smuggling across the border. He noted the use of drones and other means in facilitating illicit drug trade, posing significant challenges for law enforcement agencies. Boora stressed the need to combat such criminal activities effectively.
