Higher Edu Dept directs colleges for online classes from Dec 1 to 31

Srinagar, Nov 30: The Higher Education Department of the Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday directed all Principals of Government Degree Colleges in Kashmir Division to conduct their classes online from December 1 to December 31, 2023, until winter vacations are announced.
Ravi Raj Shanker Sharma, Special Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department told Rising Kashmir that due to the early onset of winter, which has made it difficult for students to commute to college and attend their classes. The situation has been further compounded by inadequate heating arrangements, which have made it challenging for students to stay in hostels or private accommodations.
“To ensure that academic delivery is not disrupted in adverse and extreme cold conditions, all the Principals of Government Degree Colleges in the Kashmir valley have been directed to conduct classes of the students through online mode from December 1 to 31th December 2023, till the winter vacations will be announced for the Colleges,” He said.
Special secretary said that faculty members have also been instructed to attend their colleges regularly and take their classes online to complete the syllabus as per the academic calendar.
He further said that all internal and semester-end examinations will be conducted as per the notified schedule of universities. The principals of the Government Degrees colleges will also plan for the schedule of the online classes for the students. So, the students can attend their classes as per the given schedule of their colleges.
However, the Student Notification issued by Principal of the Amar Singh College, Sheikh Ajaz Bashir said from Ist December 2023 all classes will be conducted in online mode and students will attend classes from their respective homes. The link for online or Digital mode teaching will be shared by respective faculty members and all classes will be conducted strictly as per the time given in time table and will be within the time window of 10.00 AM to 4 PM as Faculty will initiate the online classes from college campus
“No student will attend college in physical mode and Faculty will mark student attendance in online mode only,” the notification said.
It further reads that this arrangement will remain till further notice to ensure that there are no academic gaps on account of early winter onset. All Examinations scheduled will not be disturbed.
