Srinagar, Nov 12: Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Front (PDF), Hakeem Yaseen on Tuesday welcomed the government’s decision to revise the upper age limit for the J&K Combined Competitive Examinations (CCE), increasing it to 35 years for open merit candidates. Previously, the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (PSC) had reduced the age limit to 32 years for general candidates and 34 years for reserved category candidates.
In a statement issued here, Yaseen described the move as a big relief for young aspirants, especially given the limited employment opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the government to also increase the upper age limit for general candidates applying for government jobs to 45 years, in light of the growing unemployment crisis in the region.
The PDF chief called for expediting the recruitment process to fill existing vacancies across all government and semi-government departments so that educated, unemployed youth can secure jobs and ensure their livelihood.
The government has recently revised the age limit for open merit candidates to 35 years, while for reserved and in-service candidates, the limit has been extended to 37 years.
Hakeem also called for the immediate regularisation of all casual, need-based, and contractual workers, as promised in the manifestos of almost all political parties. He expressed concern over the difficult circumstances faced by the families of daily wagers and need-based workers, who are struggling to survive due to limited income sources.
