Srinagar, Oct 27: Four days after the deadly terror attack in Gulmarg, security forces have intensified their search operations to track down the terrorists believed to be hiding in the upper reaches of the Gulmarg forests. Advanced surveillance equipment, including drones and high-end cameras, has been deployed to aid in the operation, officials said.
A police officer told Rising Kashmir that joint search efforts by the Police, Army, and Paramilitary forces continued for the fourth consecutive day, with security heightened across the area. “The entire forest belt is under a tight security cordon as efforts are underway to track and neutralize the terrorists. The operation is challenging due to the dense forest and mountainous terrain,” he stated.
The official noted that a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) was also launched in adjacent villages along the Baba Reshi highway, where searches have been intensified with the support of sniffer dogs and aerial surveillance. Vehicles are being checked, and people are being frisked at various points in the district. A case has been registered by the police in connection with the attack, and security measures have been bolstered in the region.
The official said although there is no contact so far now, area domination exercises are underway in the entire belt. Area is being closely monitored. The area is mountainous and the forest is dense, making the operation both difficult and dangerous,” he said.
On Saturday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Muhammad Zaid said that around four terrorists were involved in the terror attack.
The attack, which took place on October 24, saw terrorists ambush a vehicle in the Botapatri area of Gulmarg, leading to the tragic deaths of two soldiers and two Army porters. Another soldier and a porter were injured in the incident. Security forces have since ramped up efforts to secure the area and apprehend the perpetrators.
