Srinagar, July 07: J&K Congress on Friday conveyed solidarity to its leader Rahul Gandhi while expressing dismay over the Gujarat High Court’s verdict of dismissal of the application seeking a stay on conviction with the defamation case filed against Gandhi.
Soon after the Gujarat High Court verdict, senior Congress leaders and workers assembled at the Srinagar party office to convey solidarity to Rahul Gandhi while terming his disqualification a “part of the big conspiracy of BJP after failing to answer his (RG’s) questions in Parliament”.
They said that the verdict was on expected lines, terming it a “black day for the country”.
Senior Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Mohd Anwar Bhat, Abdul Gandi Khan IYC Gen Secretary Jagdev Jaga, AICC/PCC Members, Frontal Organizations, DCC Presidents of Kashmir province, block presidents, DDC, BDC, Councilors of the party, prominent workers and others participated in the peaceful protest, a party statement issued here said.
Talking to the media persons on the occasion, Tariq Karra said, “The way the country is being run, it is expected that anything obnoxious can be done by the present government, anything unconstitutional and arbitrary, and anything which goes against the spirit of democracy and anything which is contrary to the very foundation of the constitution can be expected from the present dispensation though the verdict was on the expected lines that we are here to convey our solidarity to Rahul Gandhi so all our segments may it be youth, parent body and other frontal organizations that we are here in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi.”
“The concern today is that our country has become so infamous internationally on different counts may it be the absence of democracy in the country or the subjugation of democracy may it be the subjugation and altering of the constitution arbitrarily or may it be the excesses that have been committed on the minorities in the country or may it be putting the people head to head or one to one fight on religious grounds issues like Mandir Masjid Gurdwara Churches is being exploited,” the senior Congress leader said. “The worry for the country is that despite all these things, we had hope in the judicial system of the country today a different kind of norm is being set that this refusal of Rahul Gandhi’s right to have heard has put the country on different kind of note that if the judicial system of the country cannot deliver justice to the people then it is a very sad day for the country.”

Rahul Gandhi fighting for people’s interests: Bhalla
JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla on Friday said Gujarat High Court’s verdict on Rahul Gandhi was “unfortunate” and a “murder of the democracy”.
“We have to understand why Rahul Gandhi is being targeted. He is raising the issues of common people and he is against the BJP. The Modi government is dividing people and Rahul Gandhi wants to bring them together,” Bhalla said while addressing a protest rally taken out by Congress leaders and workers.
He further alleged that the Modi government disqualified Gandhi by raising fake cases against him after he questioned connections between Modi and the Adani Group.
Bhalla said, “Rahul Gandhi gave us the slogan of ‘Daro Mat’, which is why we are not scared, and he also gave us the slogan ‘Ladenge’, hence we will continue our fight. Rahul Gandhi is fighting the battle of truth and interests of the people in front of this arrogant power.”
Bhalla said the opposition parties and the entire country stand by Rahul Gandhi who “has been uniting the country walking on the streets of this nation”.
“BJP leaders are not able to tolerate him and that is why they want to stop him,” the Congress leader said. “Rahul Gandhi has chosen the path of truth, of righteousness, of fearlessness and of seeking accountability from those in citadels of power. This verdict is nothing but shows that democracy is in danger. Colonial rule is coming back after 75 years in this country. So, we staged a silent protest against the verdict.”
