Pampore, March 06 : The Department of Industries and commerce Jammu and Kashmir is proposing a new start- up policy for strengthening start-up ecosystem in the Union Territory, Prashant Goyal, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, told on Monday while addressing virtually to first ever one-day startup leadership conclave held at Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) Pampore.
He said that the start-up policy 2018 will be modified to make it more entrepreneur friendly.
“The department will soon come up with a new start up policy which will holistically take into consideration needs and requirements of the start-ups,” he said, adding that the government is committed to create a thriving environment for new start-ups.
Director, JKEDI, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat said the new start up policy will be entrepreneur centric.
He said that work on modifying the present start up policy is on and that they will be meeting on 9th of this month in this regard.
“There will be a provision of 5% land for start-ups, the discussion on the new policy is on and consultants are giving their feedback. The new policy will soon be in the public domain,” he said.
The Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce department, Prashant Goyal, added that they are also proposing a post graduate programme in entrepreneurship at JKEDI.
Director JKEDI , Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, said that entrepreneurship is their domain and one of their important functions.
“We have taken up with the government that we want to start a two year post graduate course in entrepreneurship at JKEDI,” Bhat said, adding that there are certain formalities to comply with before starting the course like faculty and infrastructure.
“ The details are being provided to the government,” he said, adding that they are hopeful to get a positive response in this regard. He said that they are also working on a capsule course for schools.
He added that these things will help them in creating and strengthening entrepreneurship ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
