Jammu, Mar 20: The Jammu and Kashmir government is focusing on consolidating and strengthening existing health facilities across its 4,000 healthcare institutions at Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary levels, making it one of the leading regions in health institution density in the country.
Responding to a question from Congress MLA G A Mir in the Assembly, the government said J&K has one health institution for every 3,500 people, compared to the national average of one per 6,000 people.
“It is the government’s constant endeavour to enhance healthcare services through various development initiatives, undertaken after due consultation with stakeholders, including public representatives,” the reply stated.
The government affirmed that health institutions in Dooru, including the Model Hospital, have adequate manpower to meet public healthcare needs.
However, it clarified that there is no proposal to establish a Maternal and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) in the old hospital building of SDH Dooru. Currently, SDH Dooru continues to provide MCCH services to the region.
The government further said that there is no proposal for upgrading PHC Verinag. The focus remains on strengthening existing facilities rather than expanding new ones, it said.
