Srinagar, Dec 26: The J&K government has constituted a committee to study the increasing levels of pollution emitted by the cement factories in the Khrew and Khonmoh areas in the Srinagar and Pulwama districts of Kashmir valley.
Member Secretary Pollution Control Board K Ramesh Kumar said the Committee will come up with a report after proper study in the region. “The PCB will take further steps accordingly.”
He said the Committee will examine the amount of pollution and prepare the report accordingly.
Recently at SKIMS Soura, during a conference, the Director of the premier institute Dr Parvez Koul, raised concern over the increasing lung-related diseases in Kashmir, especially in Srinagar city.
The locals of the Khrew and Khonmoh areas have been continuously at loggerheads with the authorities over the increasing levels of pollution emitted from the cement factories in the air, especially in the mornings and evenings that have affected the environment.
“The unabated pollution emanating from the cement factories circulates far and wide in the air that has ruined the health of people and the surrounding environment of the area,” said Muddasir Ahmad, a local.
