Srinagar, April 29: Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Associated Hospital, Government Medical College, Baramulla has conducted the successful first-ever total laparoscopic hysterectomy procedure on a 50-year-old female patient.
The patient was suffering from postmenopausal ovarian cyst with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), a condition traditionally managed through open methods requiring large abdominal incisions.
In a groundbreaking effort led by Chief Operating Surgeon Dr. Mudasir Ahmad, Consultant Gynecologist, the procedure was performed using only four small incisions in the abdomen, marking a significant advancement in minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Dr. Mudasir and his team undertook this complex and demanding challenge head-on, aiming to minimize the risk of complications associated with open surgeries.
The four-hour procedure was executed seamlessly, with an uneventful intraoperative period, and patient is currently recovering well.
