Srinagar, Feb 11: Glow Biotech Limited, a leading advocate for organic and sustainable farming, convened the Stakeholders’ Get Together 2024 on Sunday in Srinagar, emphasizing the importance of environmentally-friendly agricultural practices.
Shabeer Ahmad, CEO of Glow Biotech Limited, greeted attendees and delivered a comprehensive overview of the company’s endeavors. Highlighting their commitment, Ahmad stated, “We have been importing high-end organic agricultural inputs and will continue to seek out the most advanced technologies and products globally to empower our farmers to remain competitive and prosperous.”
The company, which expanded its operations to Kashmir in 2018, has focused on harnessing indigenous plants and microbes to develop products for healthcare, cosmetics, and agriculture.
Distinguished speakers including Dr. S M Ilyas and Dr. Om Prakash Sharma, former Director of J&K Forest, Ecology, and Environment Department, shed light on crucial topics such as enhancing agricultural producers’ income and leveraging forests for food and health security. Emphasizing the significance of organic materials in food production, Dr. Sharma advocated against the use of synthetic items.
Dr. Syed Riyaz ul Haasan, a senior principal scientist and professor at AcSIR, IIIM-CSIR, delved into the microbial world’s role, particularly in association with plants. Dr. Waseem Hassan Raja, a senior scientist at IIIM-CSIR, presented insights into temperature fruit varieties and their future prospects.
Dr. Rouf Ahmad, Head of Research at Glow Biotech Limited, discussed the company’s efforts in utilizing indigenous microbial, fungal, and herbal resources applicable to local agriculture, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices.
A panel discussion ensued, addressing various aspects of organic farming and sustainability, while Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director of Sericulture, shared perspectives on sustainable farming practices.
The Stakeholders’ Get Together 2024 served as a platform for industry leaders, scientists, and stakeholders to collaborate and advance the cause of organic farming in the region, promoting a greener and healthier future for agriculture in Srinagar and beyond.
