Srinagar, Nov. 03: Giving thrust to heritage tourism in Kashmir valley, the tourism department is about to complete the heritage site of Hariparbat Fort in Srinagar. The renovation workon this heritage site began some time back and is now expected to complete soon.
Under the scheme for revival, restoration, preservation, and maintenance of architecture and heritage, 35 heritage sites were identified in Jammu and Kashmir for necessary repairs and renovations.
Under this project, prominent structures including Hari Prabhat, Pari Mahal, Mughal Gardens, and other locations in north and south Kashmir were identified for renovation in Kashmir division.
Earlier, the government identified some 35 heritage sites across UT Jammu and Kashmir; among them, 17 sites were identified in the Kashmir division, and 18 sites were identified in the Jammu division.
According to the tourism department in Kashmir, some sites have been completed in Srinagar, and the work is on some sites, which include the Hariparbat fort. The work on this fort is at its final stage and will be completed in the coming weeks.
They said the work on the other sites will begin soon, as these sites would be promoted on a large scale to attract visitors, the officials said, adding that tourists love to visit such places.
The executing agency has been tasked with adhering to all legal requirements and ensuring the delivery of the monthly progress report to the appropriate Deputy Directors of the Department of Archives, Archaeology, and Museums by or before the fifth of each month for submission to the Administrative Department.
In order to guarantee that each and every heritage site’s original architecture is preserved during the restoration process, it has also been determined that the Department of Archives, Archaeology, and Museums will offer professional guidance to the executing agency.
Commenting on the heritage sites of Kashmir valley, the director of tourism in Kashmir, Faz-lul Haseeb, told Rising Kashmir that “We are giving athrust to heritage tourism.” Only recently have we launched a Legacy Tour of the old city for tourists; besides, renovation work at the Hariparbat fort stands is almost completed, which would be a great attraction for tourists.
Haseeb said that “We have a rich heritage of art, craft, and literature in Shehr e Khaas, which we are equally proud of, and the Department intends to display that heritage on the tourist canvas of the country and abroad.”
