Ganderbal, Feb 23: Over the past two weeks several garbage collection vehicles provided by Block Gund in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district to maintain environmental cleanliness are been missing. This absence has prompted frustration among residents, hotel owners, and local communities who are now compelled to dispose of their waste on roadsides and other unauthorized areas.
Despite official payments made for garbage collection services, the timely arrival of these vehicles has become increasingly unreliable, leading to a buildup of waste in residential and commercial areas. Local residents lament the adverse effects on the environment caused by this negligence, as discarded garbage pollutes streets and public spaces.
Hotel owners, in particular, have voiced their grievances over the ten-day absence of garbage collection services, highlighting the significant inconvenience and operational challenges it poses. While acknowledging the initial positive steps taken to uphold environmental standards, they stress the urgent need for intervention to rectify the current problem.
In response to mounting concerns, locals have appealed to the district administration Ganderbal to address the issue promptly and ensure the resumption of regular garbage collection services.
