Ganderbal, Oct 12: With winter approaching, the residents in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district are grappling with persistent power supply issues, causing significant hardships, especially for students preparing for upcoming exams.
The locals said that despite the presence of three major power projects in the region, erratic power cuts have plagued various localities, including Ganderbal, Kangan, Cherwan, Bonibagh, Thune, Ganiwan, Gund, Rayil, Kullan, and Gagangeer, during the past week.
The frustrated locals have questioned the efficacy of having three power projects within the district when a reliable electricity supply remains elusive. Despite timely payment of electricity bills, we continue to face inconvenience due to frequent power outages, particularly during morning and evening hours, they said.
The impact of these power cuts is most severe on students, whose crucial study hours are disrupted, jeopardising their education and future prospects.
Rather than imposing unscheduled power cuts during peak study hours, the PDD should consider scheduling them during the daytime to minimise the adverse impact on the student community, they said.
The locals have expressed their concerns and urged the Power Development Department (PDD) authorities to take immediate action. They specifically demand that power cuts be scheduled during the daytime to minimise the adverse impact on students’ academic pursuits.
