Ganderbal, Jan 17: The residents of Dardpora-Anderwan in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir
Thursday raised serious concerns over the acute shortage of drinking water in the area, blaming the
Jal Shakti department for neglecting the area.
Locals told Rising Kashmir that the area has been suffering from the lack of potable water for the
past three years, as the pipes laid by the Jal Shakti department have failed to supply water to them.
“For years, we have been deprived of proper drinking water. The department has turned a blind eye
to our plight, leaving us to rely on snow for drinking and other domestic purposes,” a local woman
said.
The residents alleged that the employees of the Jal Shakti department posted in the area are
indifferent to their repeated complaints. “Despite raising the issue multiple times, no action has
been taken to address the water crisis that has affected almost the entire area,” another local
lamented.
They have urged the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to resolve the issue and ensure
the supply of clean drinking water, as the scarcity is affecting their daily lives, particularly during the
harsh winter season. Efforts to reach officials from the Jal Shakti department for a response have so
far been unsuccessful.
