Jammu, Dec 01: Apni Party provincial president, Jammu, S. Manjit Singh on Sunday expressed his concern over the delay in granting statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a meeting of party leaders at village Gurgani in Block Parmandal, Samba District, the former minister referred to the growing concerns of the people regarding the unfulfilled promise made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir that they would get back their statehood.
“Jammu and Kashmir is a historic state that was ruled by Dogra Maharajas. The people of J&K have built this state with their sacrifices, and if the statehood status is delayed, it will create a feeling of discontent and dissatisfaction among the people,” he said.
Expressing his dismay over the developmental activities in Block Parmandal, Singh said the area has remained neglected for decades, and the people feel deprived of development for political reasons, as the administration sides with a particular party.
“The administration and its field departments should have done justice with the people by providing equal developmental opportunities, including the construction of lanes, drains, ensuring clean drinking water supply, health facilities, and approach roads,” he said.
Earlier, the people complained that government officials do not listen to their grievances, even after highlighting their issues several times. “The people are told to visit again, and the issues remain unresolved,” the Apni Party leader added. He urged for the early restoration of statehood so that government departments could be held accountable.
The meeting was also attended by the District President of Samba District, Raman Thappa, and other party leaders.
