Pulwama, Aug 10: The Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department Kashmir has cancelled the licence of a fair price shop (FPS) dealer for obtaining it fraudulently here in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Assistant Director FCS&CA Pulwama, Mushtaq Ahmad, said they have cancelled the licence of an FPS dealer, Javid Ahmad, from Chersoo area of Awantipora for managing it fraudulently.
He said the person has been working as a regular employee in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) since 2002 under a different name.
“Javid had managed an FPS licence from the department some years back. It was in 2019 that the department received a complaint against him through ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) for obtaining the licence through fraudulent means,” he said.
The Assistant Director said he was directed by the Director ACB a couple of weeks ago to look into the pending complaint for its disposal. “We constituted an inquiry which found that Javid Ahmad has been working in SMC since 2002 under the name of Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh and there he has shown Srinagar as his place of residence,” the AD said, adding that in SMC, he has shown his qualification as 8th pass.
The officer added that the same person has shown his qualification as a 10th pass for obtaining the FPS licence from FCS&CA. The bank account details and the photograph of the person were checked with his service record at SMC which matched.
After the inquiry, we cancelled his FPS licence, the officer said.
The licence is usually granted to unemployed youth not doing any government or private job.
“After surfacing this bizarre case, we will examine other FPS licences to make sure that they have been granted to genuine persons,” the Assistant Director said.
