Ganderbal, June 23: Authorities have temporarily closed a footbridge after a portion of it was damaged due to the sudden rise of water level in the River Sindh in the Gund area of this central Kashmir’ Ganderbal district.
Locals told Rising Kashmir that a portion of the footbridge built over River Sindh by the Rural Development Department (RDD) last year suffered damage due to an increase in the water level of the river.
“As a routine, we were going to the forests with our livestock and saw a portion of the bridge was damaged due to the rapid flow of water from Sindh. We immediately informed the concerned department,” they said.
The bridge connects three villages with the tehsil headquarters Gund, and the children from Ramwari, Hilpati Haknar and Doie Pati also use this as their route to the school.
As soon as the SDRF and police received information about it, they immediately rushed to the spot and tied the steel wire on the footbridge which closed as a precautionary measure, the locals said.
Block Development Officer (BDO) Gund, Sheikh Arif appealed to the residents of the area to avoid walking on the footbridge. He said the department will work on the bridge soon so that the people do not face any difficulties.
