Kulgam, Apr 01:The Food Safety Department in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district conducted an extensive market checking drive in the DamhalHamjipora area on Monday.
Inderjeet Singh, Food Safety Officer, Kulgam, told Rising Kashmir that they have been continuously conducting market checking in the district under the directives of the Commissioner Food Safety and the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kulgam.
Singh said that on Monday, they carried out a drive in the DamhalHanjipora market in collaboration with the Tehsildar of DamhalHanjipora and the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Noorabad.
“Approximately 50 establishments were inspected, and two samples of milk and savouries product were collected for further testing to ensure the sale of quality and pure products to the public,” he said.
He added that Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Kulgam, Syed Nighat Hassan, has given clear instructions to eradicate unregistered vendors from the market and penalize shopkeepers selling substandard or impure products.
“In the past month, we have collected a total of 68 samples from various shops during different drives in the district. We are also educating shopkeepers about the guidelines for milk sellers, bakers, and others,” he added.
He further said that during specific festivals, their drives intensify, and otherwise, market checking by the Food Safety Department is an ongoing process. “People who believe they are purchasing substandard items can reach out to us. It’s a collective effort to ensure the market is free from unhygienic and unscrupulous individuals,” he added.
