Srinagar, July 29:
In an extraordinary and historic display of solidarity, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, made history as he participated in the Muharram procession of Shia mourners on Ashura. The event, held in the heart of Srinagar’s BotaKadal in the Zadibal area, marked the first time in 35 years that a head of state actively joined the observance.
Wearing a black Kurta, Lieutenant Governor Sinha joined the procession at BotaKadal in the Zadibal area of Downtown, accompanied by a security force comprising senior officials from the police and civil administration. His presence was not merely ceremonial; he actively interacted with the mourners, sharing heartfelt conversations, and distributing refreshments, demonstrating his empathy and compassion.
Amidst tight security cover, LG Sinha reached the BotaKadal area at around 11 am, where he was warmly received by the mourners and community members. His active participation in the sacred procession sent a powerful message of inclusivity, understanding, and solidarity with the people he serves.
He was accompanied by ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bhiduri, SSP Srinagar RakeshBalwal, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Muhammad AijazAsad.
Taking to social media platform Twitter, Lieutenant Governor Sinha paid tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions, reflecting on their sacrifice for righteousness and humanity’s greater good. He urged people to embrace the timeless ideals of unity and peace exemplified by Hazrat Imam Hussain and to work together for the progress and prosperity of all.
The gathering served as a powerful reminder that despite the passage of time, the values upheld by Hazrat Imam Hussain continue to resonate and inspire people from all walks of life. The event transcended religious boundaries, fostering a profound sense of unity and shared purpose among the participants.
The Lieutenant Governor’s active involvement in the Muharram observance conveyed a powerful message of inclusivity and understanding, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to bridge gaps and strengthen bonds with the people. Such gestures are crucial in building trust between authorities and the public and nurturing communal harmony, which is vital for the progress and development of any society.

Meanwhile, National Conference President, Farooq Abdullah, also graced the occasion, visiting the Zadibal area to join the Ashura mourners. In an emotional speech, Abdullah highlighted the enduring impact of the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain and his companions, emphasizing that their actions have kept Islam and the essence of humanity alive over the centuries.
He called on the world to remember the lessons taught by these selfless sacrifices – to strengthen one’s faith, fear only Allah, and strive for righteousness in the face of adversity. Abdullah emphasized the importance of embracing the path of compassion and empathy to address the challenges facing humanity today.
Meanwhile, Shia mourners expressed gratitude to the administration for ensuring quality arrangements and thanked LG for reaching out to them. “We feel delighted to see LG sahib among us today. It is a moment of pride for us. Arrangements made by the administration are up to the mark,” mourners said.
