Bandipora, Nov 26: Senior Congress leader and MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat on Tuesday said he “firmly” believes that the central government will uphold its promises made to the people on the restoration of constitutional rights and guarantees to Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Constitution Day commemoration function here, Bhat said, “I believe that the Centre won’t renege on its promise made in the Parliament and Kashmir as well.”
“Emotions and feelings of the people need to be respected. Popular government that has been elected by the people of Jammu and Kashmir should also be given due respect. This is a democratic country and I believe the Centre will reciprocate well,” he added.
Congress on Tuesday held public meetings at district headquarters across the Union Territory to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India.
The grand old party also held a protest at Congress Bhawan Srinagar, demanding full restoration of statehood and constitutional guarantees to Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
